Invensense Sees 65% Growth As Motion Processing Becomes Must-Have for Handhelds
InvenSense caught the wave of mass market demand for motion processing –and gyroscopes—as applications moved beyond the gaming niche to wide adoption in smart phones and tablets last year. “Motion sensing is as transformational as wireless and cameras for the mobile phone market,” argues CEO Steve Nasiri, noting that strong traction for motion interfaces is also now expanding into wearable sensors and smart TV controls. That’s helped the company to rapidly diversify beyond its early dependence on the gaming market, which accounted for more than 70% of its sales in its last fiscal year. But nongaming applications accounted for more than 50% of its revenue in the most recent quarter, and are on track to be well over 60% of revenues for its current fiscal year through March.
