We are expanding our Finance team to bring on a skilled Fund Accounting Manager who will support and report to our VP – Finance with dotted line reporting to the Operating Partner. 

The Role & Opportunity

As a key member of the Team, you will be integral to maintaining and managing Financial Operations for the firm. You will support core Finance initiatives including periodic closings for our 5 open funds plus portfolio company reporting for our 75+ portfolio investments. In addition to working with the VP – Finance and Operating Partner, you will help manage the Fund Accountant. In addition to scheduled activities like quarterly closing and reporting you will help with ad hoc requests, fundraising and data requests plus preparation for periodic investor meeting. Working with early-stage portfolio companies to help with accounting setup and issues is also possible for the right candidate. Our office is based in San Mateo, CA. We are currently hybrid with 1-2 days/week in office. Remote is possible for this position so candidates outside of the SF/Bay Area are encouraged to apply.

This is not only a “hands-on” position but will also require a high level of independent work, content creation, creative thinking, and leadership. Effective interaction with the Managing Partners, outside vendors (content creators, PR, and key advisors) will also be part of the role. The successful candidate will be well-rounded with the ability to work closely in a small, fast moving environment.

Our office is based in San Mateo, CA. We are currently have a hybrid approach with some days in-office and some working from home. In-person is preferred for this role but remote is possible so candidates outside of the SF/Bay Area are encouraged to apply.

A day in the life:

  • Manage quarterly/year-end closings which entails review of real time entries of all (non)-investment transactions, capital calls, distributions and other activity in system ledger
  • Ensure upkeep of various internal schedules to track investment information and fund calculations
  • Monitor portfolio company quarterly reporting collection, capital calls, and distributions
  • Oversee fund accountant’s and consultant’s daily or weekly activities
  • Prepare and review quarterly valuations for all active companies
  • Maintain ongoing documentation and calculations for both interim/annual audits and tax workpapers
  • Collaborate with third party administrator where needed to provide timely information
  • Monitor investor relations incoming requests (eg: audit confirmations, contact changes, wire instruction updates) and work with fund accountant to address in timely fashion
  • Review and manage annual audit and tax compliance deliverables that include K-1s, international filings, and Form 1042s
  • Review fund newsletters, portfolio summaries, and stock custodial holdings on a quarterly basis

To be successful in this role:

  • 4+ years of public accounting (audit or accounting), fund admin, or other asset manager experience, with exposure in private equity, venture capital or various alternative investment firms
  • Keen interest in growing your technical expertise in the industry
  • Excellent Excel skills to manage large volumes of data
  • Excellent verbal and written communications with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong work ethic with attention to detail and ability to problem solve
  • CPA (active or inactive) preferred
